Purpose
This article informs users that the IRS recently announced a midyear update to its suggested mileage reimbursement rate, and TravelBank will update the platform to reflect the new IRS rate. Please review this announcement and take action on your mileage reimbursement rate if needed.
Audience
This article applies to all US customers using the IRS rate as the mileage reimbursement rate for their organization’s expense policy.
Overview
The current IRS rate in TravelBank is 0.725, and effective July 21, 2026, the TravelBank platform will be updated with the new IRS mileage rate of 0.76.
If you are using the IRS rate as the mileage reimbursement rate for your organization’s expense policy, any mileage expenses created on or after July 21 with an expense date of July 1 or later will automatically be calculated using the new IRS mileage rate.
For all new mileage expenses created after July 21, the system will decide the rate based on expense date. Expenses dated before July 1 will take the old rate, and expenses dated on or after July 1 will take the new rate.
Expenses already created with expense dates between July 1 and July 20 will continue to reflect the old IRS rate and will not be automatically adjusted. Therefore, please review these expenses closely and make corrections as needed.
For unsubmitted expenses: Direct your employees to discard existing mileage expenses and re-create new ones on or after July 21. These new expenses will automatically take the new IRS rate.
For expenses that are Submitted, Approved, Paid, or In-Flight: For approvals or reimbursements, the mileage rate will not be automatically adjusted. Please review these expenses, identify any reimbursement differences, and direct employees to submit a separate reimbursable expense for the reimbursement difference so it can be reimbursed through the next reimbursement cycle.
If your organization does not wish to use the IRS mileage rate, you can configure a custom mileage rate within your expense policy. For more information, review our articles on this topic: Manage your organization's expense policies and Expense policy: Mileage reimbursement rate.
Please note: The IRS publishes a standard mileage rate that many organizations follow; however, it is not mandatory for you to use this rate. You are free to choose a mileage reimbursement rate in accordance with your company policies.
